Pre-order your copy of THE WORLDS OF PHILIP JOSÉ FARMER 1: PROTEAN DIMENSIONS featuring my foreword.19 May

It should be no secret to anyone who reads my stuff that I’m a big fan of the late, great Philip José Farmer.  Apparently I’m not the only one.  I’m not even the biggest one.  There are people like Michael Croteau and Win Scott Eckert who are going above and beyond when it comes to keeping his torches lit and burnishing his legacy.

They’ve created this limited edition book, THE WORLDS OF PHILIP JOSÉ FARMER 1: PROTEAN DIMENSIONS, the first in an annual series dedicated to keeping his name and works alive.  They extended me a great honor by inviting me to write the foreword for this first edition.   I get to publicly thank PJF for his inspirations for the first time.   I hope you’ll add it to your collection.  Pre-orders are being taken now so get yourself one for reading and one for keeping.

To be sure you get a copy of this book, send an email to mike @ pjfarmer.com and reserve your copy today. The release date is June 26th, during FarmerCon V.

Doc Savage #1 is in stores now! The first superman returns.14 Apr

In the 75+ years history of the character, Doc Savage, only a handful of writers have been able to step into the mighty big shoes of Lester Dent, writing as Kenneth Robeson, and take a crack at him.  I’ve literally dreamed about being one of those since I was a kid.  I’ve also dreamed about writing a comic book.  Today, I get to cross off both those dreams in one fell swoop.  DC Comics has released the first issue of my “Lord of Lightning” supersaga, part of the new First Wave universe.
Now I need your help.  I’m asking you to walk into your local comic book store and buy a copy.  For some of you, this will be no more of a big deal than walking into your local bar right afterwards.  But for those of you who haven’t been in a comic book store in years – or ever, give it a shot.  Don’t do it for me, do it for Doc–so that this fantastic pulp character can survive into a new era.  He was born of an era of tough economic times long ago, and I believe he’s the perfect hero for ours.  Find out for yourself.  Today.

These things aren’t going to sell themselves.

See you in the funny pages!

Wish I’d known about this drunk history of Tesla before…09 Apr

…I started writing The Astounding, the Amazing, and the Unknown. Oh, well.  That’s what rewrites are for.  Let’s see if I can work in a mention of the “electric Jesus!”

OWL salutes Karl Marlantes08 Apr

Did you read Sebastian Junger’s review of Karl Marlantes’ new Vietnam novel, Matterhorn, in last weekend’s New York Times?

If you missed his rave, click here to read it.  I’ll wait for you to come back.

Sounds like an amazing book, right?  Thanks to Karl, we now have to cases of his book to send to troops in Afghanistan.

We’ve started collecting books for spring so if you’re an author or publisher, please get in touch with Operation Warrior Library and let us know if you’d like to be included.

If you’d like to support the authors who are donating their books, then, y’know, buy their books in the OWL bookstore.  Any proceeds from sales there go to help us ship books over.

Introducing Operation Warrior Library author, Jon Guenther’s new novel30 Oct

Jon Guenther’s been a supporter of OWL almost since it began. As a veteran himself, he knows how far a good book can go in helping a soldier pass some time. Now, as we’re trying to come up with audiobooks for wounded soldiers in Germany, Jon has stepped up again to offer us some audio productions of his Mack Bolan and Stony Man series. These pulp adventures are going to be just what the doctor ordered and we can’t wait to deliver them.

Jon has a new novel out, SOUL RUNNER, and it sounds like a great thriller:

The year is 1988. As a former Hasidic Jew raised in the Bronx, Dr. Bram Aronsfeld is no stranger to trouble.

Now the secret organization known as ARK is sending him into Communist-controlled Romania to rescue the beautiful Ileana Tarus, a Christian Gypsy woman who possesses information vital to ARK’s intelligence operations. Spearheading the subjugation of her people is the evil Drago Profis, a despot backed by the current regime.

When Bram realizes it’s not just Ileana but her whole village that need rescuing, the two will embark on a perilous adventure from which only their foolhardy courage and Almighty God can save them all!
